Florida town struggles with THMsHARMONY, FL, April 18, 2011 (Water Tech)— The TOHO Water Authority (TWA) in Harmony, Fla., has sent a notice to customers warning that their water is contaminated with cancer-causing trihalomethanes (THMs), WFTV Orlando reported.THMs are a byproduct of chloramine, which TWA adds to its water supply to comply with federal and state water purification standards, the article stated. TWA is providing all of its 1,200 customers with faucet water filters until the problem is fixed, according to the story. (THM's are also made by chlorination, chloramine is a mixture of chlorine and ammonia and has just started being used the last few years. All the effects of it is not yet known.)
